Servings
4

Ingredients

1 tbsp canola oil

2 c thinly sliced onions

1 tbsp brown sugar

1/3 c hickory barbecue sauce, DIVIDED

1 lb GROUND TURKEY

4 whole grain sandwich buns, split

Directions

Heat oil in a heavy, large nonstick skillet over low heat. Add onions and sugar. Cook, stirring occasionally, until onions are tender and golden, about 15 minutes. Stir in 1 tablespoon barbecue sauce. Cover and keep warm.

Meanwhile, preheat grill for medium direct heat. In a medium bowl, combine ground turkey, 2 tablespoons barbecue sauce and 1/4 tsp each salt and pepper. Mix well and shape into 4 burgers. Place burgers 4-5 inches above the heat.

Grill burgers until cooked to an internal temperature of 165 degrees F, about 6-8 minutes per side, turning once and brushing burgers with remaining sauce after turning.

Grill buns, cut side down, until lightly toasted, 1-2 minutes. Place onions on bottom halves of buns then add burgers. Cover with bun tops.
