Italian Turkey Sausage W/ Caramelized Onions & Apples



1 tbsp margarine

3 c onion, thinly sliced

1 tbsp sugar

1-1/2 c Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored & cut into 1/2-inch pieces


6 6-inch crusty buns, sliced lengthwise and heated



In large nonstick skillet, over medium-high heat, melt margarine. Combine onions with sugar and sauté in margarine 8-10 minutes, or until onions are soft and lightly browned; stirring constantly.

Add apples and continue cooking 5 to 7 minutes or until apples are fork-tender.

Meanwhile, preheat grill for direct-heat grilling. Grill sausages,about 5 inches from the heat for 4-5 minutes per side or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F and turkey is no longer pink in center. OR, broil sausages, 4 inches from the heat source to an internal temperature of 165 degrees F.

To serve, place sausages in warm buns and top with caramelized onion and apple mixture.
