Turkey Sausage Stromboli



1 lb TURKEY KIELBASA or SMOKED TURKEY SAUSAGE, cut into 1/8-inch slices

2 Cans (14-1/2 oz each) stewed tomatoes, drained

1 Can (8 oz) sliced mushrooms, drained

1 tsp Italian seasoning

1 tsp garlic powder

2 Loaves (1 lb each) unsliced brown & serve Italian bread

1 lb shredded Mozzarella cheese, divided


In large non-stick skillet, over medium-high heat, saute sausage rings 2 to 3 minutes or until lightly browned. Add tomatoes, mushrooms, Italian seasoning and garlic powder; bring to boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer 10 minutes or until most of liquid has evaporated.

Meanwhile, cut top of each bread loaf lengthwise. Hollow out centers of bottom half of loaves, leaving 1/2-inch shells. Reserve top halves. Place loaves on two 12-X 15-inch baking sheets.

In each bread shell, sprinkle 1/2 cup cheese. Top with 1/2 of turkey sausage mixture. Sprinkle with remaining cheese and top with reserved top halves.

Bake at 425 degrees F 8 to 10 minutes or until bread is lightly browned.

NOTE: If desired, make croutons with remaining bread pieces by placing them on baking sheet, sprayed with vegetable cooking spray, and bake at 425 degrees F 5 to 8 minutes or until lightly browned.
